Adding a branded look and feel to your social presence can help you increase your community size, create a more professional feel and set you apart from your competitors. However, depending on the network, these specific branding tactics can vary. You can add custom backgrounds on Twitter and YouTube, and Facebook allows you to customize your profile picture, photo strip and tabs. Today, we will concentrate on how to customize Facebook specifically and the benefits behind doing so.
There are eight tabs displayed on Facebook on the left hand side of the page.
The first two tabs, Wall and Info, are mandatory for each and every page created. The other six tabs are free to be customized, rotated and shared within your page. First, I recommend tying a “Welcome†tab into your Facebook page. This tab will act as the landing tab to your page; explain the purpose of the account and why users should like the page. You want to provide an incentive for people to commit to your page. Other tabs can range from specific campaigns to the main areas of your website that people are regularly looking for. You can go as far as tying in an e-newsletter signup form within one of your custom tabs. This allows your business to tie in its most important information while making the Facebook page feel like an extension of your brand.

You can also customize the photo strip located at the top of each page. This photo strip allows each page to display the photos that were last added to your albums or wall. At Sundog, we created an interactive photo strip on our page to keep the branded feel and tie back to our website.

Customizing your social pages will help you drive engagement, and users will become more aware of your brand, building on the user relationship.
