Distribute Internal Android Apps

I couldn’t tell you how many times I have been asked by a client for a good way of distribution of their mobile applications.  Thanks to a new feature that Google has implemented for their Google Play Store, it is now possible to easily distribute internal Android applications for Google Apps Business, Education and Government users.  This new feature is the Private Channel for Google Apps.

Play Store

With this private channel, you can set up internal applications for your organization and have one easy place for download.  The channel will show up under your domain on the home screen for the Play Store.

To allow the private channel to be used for your organization the Administrator will need to set it up in the control panel Organizations & users > Services and turn on the Google Play Developer Console.  If the administrator would want more granular control over the users using the internal channel they would need to go under Settings > Mobile.  Then it is just a matter of publishing.  This can be done through the standard Android Publish site.

Have you had a chance to use this feature?  If so, what are your initial thoughts?
